Plot

Things really become clear in “The Book of Kristofer” around 46% of the way in. In the early 1700s Milo Mogge had two assistants, Bogomil and Anabin. They were immortal but that immortality came with responsibilities.

  1. Bogomil schemed to get rid of the burden but keep the immortality. He didn't tell Anabin of his scheme.
  2. Bogomil offered their immortality to Thomas and his brother Kristofer in a rite requiring a token, a cup. (A lie, he only intended to give them the burden.)
  3. Kristofer's girlfriend, Avelot jumped in during the ritual in an attempt to get the immortality, but the ritual was broken.
  4. Kristofer died. Avelot becomes Bowie. Bogomil was cursed by Milo Mogge, and betrayed Anabin too.
  5. Until either Bogomil or Anabin restore the token to Milo Mogge, they're both under her thumb.
  6. Thomas is Milo Mogge's servant now. The “dead” kids must've been in contact with the token somehow. Everyone is looking for the token, which can take other forms.
